Limitations:
- Installation temperature range: 40°F to 95°F (4°C to 35°C)
- Not recommended for moisture-sensitive stone, agglomerate tiles, cultured marble, or resin-backed tiles
- Use white mortar for light-colored stones and translucent marble
- Not suitable for dimensionally unstable substrates
Suitable Substrates: When mixed with water:
- Fully cured concrete (minimum 28 days)
- Masonry cement block, brick, cement mortar beds, and leveling coats
When mixed with Keraply:
- All substrates listed above
- Cement backer units (CBU)
- Gypsum wallboard and primed plaster (interior dry areas only)
- APA and CANPLY Group 1 exterior-grade plywood (interior residential and light commercial dry conditions)
- Properly prepared existing flooring materials
- MAPEI waterproofing, crack-isolation, and sound-reduction membranes
Surface Preparation:
- Ensure all substrates are structurally sound, stable, dry, clean, and free of any bond-inhibiting substances
- Refer to MAPEI’s “Surface Preparation Requirements” document for detailed instructions
Mixing:
- For water mixture: Use 5.5 to 6 U.S. qts. (5,50 to 5,68 L) of clean water per 50 lbs (22,7 kg) of Keraset powder
- For Keraply mixture: Use 2 U.S. gals. (7,57 L) of Keraply per 50 lbs (22,7 kg) of Keraset powder
- Mix to a smooth, homogenous, lump-free paste
- Allow mixture to slake for 10 minutes, then remix before use
Application:
- Apply mortar with a notched trowel, ensuring proper coverage
- Key mortar into the substrate with the flat side of the trowel
- Apply additional mortar with the notched side of the trowel
- Place tiles firmly into the wet mortar, ensuring proper contact
- Remove excess mortar from joint areas
Expansion and Control Joints:
- Provide expansion and control joints as specified by industry standards
- Do not cover expansion joints with mortar
Cleanup and Protection:
- Clean tools and tile while mortar is fresh
- Protect from traffic for 24 hours and heavy traffic for 7 days
- Shield from frost and rain for 7 days
